Healthy Appetites Promote Positive Youth
Healthy Appetites Promote Positive Youth! One in six Texas households struggle to avoid hunger. Lack of proper nutrition not only adversely affects academic performance, but children in food insecure homes are more likely to fall ill, resulting in higher school absences. Junior League’s H.A.P.P.Y. program endeavors to neutralize hunger in vulnerable children by partnering with area schools to provide approximately 5000 weekend backpacks of healthy, child-friendly, nonperishable, and easily consumed food over the school year. Additionally, H.A.P.P.Y. provides over 1000 snacks a month for students in nine different schools. The continued expansion of this program allows Junior League of The Woodlands to support hungry children in a total of nine area schools spanning three school districts.
