Presidents Message

Welcome to the Junior League of The Woodlands, Inc, (JLTW) website.  We are “Women Building Better Communities” and are proud to have the opportunity to serve the residents and organizations of North Harris and South Montgomery Counties.

The Junior League is about a simple, but powerful idea that women with energy and passion can lead their communities in change. For over 25 years, JLTW has been making a difference in our community. We are proud to have more than 500 women that are committed to this mission.

Our community programs focus on improving the lives of women, children and families.  We focus on the issues of literacy and education, health and nutrition, and abused, at-risk women and children.  Together with our community partners, we are striving to make a lasting impact in these areas.

Our JL Literacy Carnivals promote the love of reading and have donated more than 35,000 books to area children since its inception.  We also host the very successful IMPACT (Increase and Motivate Positive Awareness in Children and Teachers) event. This yearly conference provides knowledge and skills needed to instill positive self-esteem within children, adolescents, and peers to nearly 3,000 individuals including parents, educators, and students. This year’s IMPACT event will welcome Katilin Roig-DeBellis, author of “Choosing Hope: Moving Forward From Life’s Darkest Hours” and executive director and founder of Classes 4 Classes.

Our Kids in the Kitchen program fights childhood obesity and promotes a healthy, active life-style by teaching families about nutrition and healthy eating habits through fun, hands-on activities.  Research has shown that hungry kids underperform in school, so our H.A.P.P.Y. backpack program strives to bridge the gap of food insecurity, by providing weekday snacks and backpacks of healthy, nutritious food for the weekends to students in need.  We are fighting hunger, one backpack at a time!

Our hospital committee has a strong history of providing support to pediatric patients, their families and nurses at St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital.  This year our hospital committee is proud to expand and also partner with the soon to open Texas Children’s Hospital, Woodlands campus.  We are excited to be among the first to welcome TCH to our community and look forward to growing a strong partnership with them.

The JL REACH (REsource for Abused Children) Committee serves abused children through the Montgomery County CPS Rainbow Room in Conroe.  Our REACH committee also partners with CASA and Angel Reach to provide support and resources to children in the foster care system.

Our New Beginnings committee helps human trafficking survivors regain their dignity and educates and raises awareness of this very important issue.

JL’s Done in a Day program provides trained volunteers for partnering non-profit organizations to help in completing projects and fulfilling their missions. Projects have included over 175 variations of collection drives, remodeled waiting rooms, gardening projects, and assistance in local events.

In 2015-2016, we invested over $221,000 back into the community. We volunteered over 3,000 hours, an investment of over $1 million in volunteer hours into our community!  For more information about our programs, check out the community section of our website!

We fund our community initiatives through three major fundraisers:

To those who are already donors and sponsor of our League- THANK YOU!  We look forward to continuing our relationship.  Without your support, we couldn’t complete our mission.  Your support helps us move toward our vision of becoming the areas premier women’s volunteer organization.  For more information about donor or sponsorship opportunities, please visit the fundraising section of our website.

I chose the theme, “Infinite Opportunities,” for the 2016-17 League year because that is how I see Junior League of The Woodlands.  Serving in JLTW allows members limitless chances to change our community for the better and to grow as individuals.

Whether as a new member, donor, sponsor, or community partner, I hope you will join us as we embrace the “Infinite Opportunities” offered this year.  As Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.”  I have no doubt that together we can do just that!  I am thankful for opportunity to lead Junior League of the Woodlands, as together we make a lasting impact on our community and each other!

Warmest Regards,

Bobbi Jo Miller
